Prestwick highlights

Prestwick Spaceport

Glasgow Prestwick Airport, alongside launch partner Astraius, aims to become Europe's leading horizontal launch spaceport. Micro-gravity experiments, satellite launches and hypersonic flights will all happen from here.

This is boosted by investment in infrastructure for satellite integration, payload processing, mission control, fuel storage, and mixing areas - everything you need to create the ideal commercial space operating environment.

Forefront of innovation

There is so much innovation in aerospace design, manufacturing and engineering happening around the park.  Space companies can also now take advantage of having these complementary skills to hand - companies, researchers and academics who are pushing the boundaries in the practical application of emerging technologies and high-value manufacturing processes.

Spirit AeroSystems Aerospace Innovation Centre (AIC)

A 90,000 square feet R&D and test facility that allows industry and academia to collaborate in the design and digital manufacturing of aerostructures.

This centre for excellence explores new approaches using composite material technology to reduce flight emissions and costs, innovating through automation, as well as helping to train and develop the next generation of engineers.

Benefits of setting up at Prestwick

Access to talent

Ayrshire is a vibrant hub for new talent and is keeping pace with industry. The Aeronautical Engineering Training Centre is located on Ayrshire College’s Ayr Campus and works closely with industry leaders. Graduates leave with the knowledge and skills businesses are looking for, such as experience working with composite materials and industry-standard visual software.

Scotland’s world-class universities are also on your doorstep, not only providing an unrivalled talent pool of world-ready students but making it easy to tap into the latest ground-breaking research and technology from globally renowned researchers and engineers.

Public sector support

Significant public sector investment is helping to unlock the enormous potential for Ayrshire to become one of Europe’s leading centres of aerospace and space activity. It’s an area with big ambitions and plans to develop a fairer, more sustainable economy centred on people and communities.

We're investing in more high-quality commercial space which will meet low carbon and 'Factory of the Future' standards. It will withstand diversification and evolution in Scotland’s rapidly growing space cluster, as well contribute to our net zero ambitions.

Connected to Scotland and the rest of the world

Prestwick is a location strategically connected to both local and global markets, with direct connectivity by air, rail, road and sea.  Glasgow Prestwick Airport can handle aircraft of all sizes and large-scale cargo. The region’s seaports handle over 500,000 tonnes of cargo annually with state-of-the-art warehouse and storage facilities and easy access to both rail networks and trunk roads, ensuring smooth movement of goods to the rest of the UK and beyond.
