This site has a diverse history, from serving as a Royal Air Force training base during World War II, to nearly 50 years as a nuclear power plant. Today it's being decommissioned and has an exciting chapter ahead.

200 hectares of land
With around 60 hectares available to develop now, your business can benefit from both existing and planned infrastructure offering direct, on-site, high voltage access to the grid.
Hydrogen Hub
The site has been named one of Scotland's emerging regional hydrogen hubs, with significant potential for low carbon energy, storage and transport, as well as research and development opportunities.
With its highly skilled local workforce, infrastructure and supply chain, Chapelcross offers an ideal location for large and complex hydrogen projects.
Environmental sustainability and resilience
The south of Scotland contributes significantly to Scotland’s renewable energy output. As well as onshore and offshore wind, there are also plans to introduce solar farms both onsite and nearby. The local coastal areas offer some of the highest levels of solar irradiance in Scotland, presenting the ideal setting for energy generation.
Dumfries and Galloway College
This college is home to a green energy academy. Courses and hands-on experience in specialist areas such as wind turbines, solar system installation and decarbonised heating systems, give students the opportunity to keep pace with industry and thrive in a rapidly expanding sector.
Crichton Campus
This multi-institutional academic campus is home to the University of Glasgow, the University of the West of Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway College, Scotland’s Rural College and the Open University. It offers a diverse and innovative centre of learning with access to a variety of talent and skills.
Scotland’s first rural 5G centre is also located here, where you can test and develop new applications and services of 5G technologies.
