Montrose Port

Project description

The Montrose Port development plan positions Montrose Port Authority as the operations and maintenance (O&M) superhub for the east coast of Scotland.

Already home to the O&M base for Seagreen and Inch Cape, the port can accommodate more offshore wind vessels by optimising the existing harbour and can create long term jobs through both O&M and manufacturing.

An onsite skills academy has already received investment. The academy supports the offshore wind sector by providing training to new entrants and helping ease the transition from the traditional oil and gas market.

Finer details

The project enhances Scotland’s offshore wind infrastructure, supporting fabrication, storage, and maintenance operations for major wind developments. Montrose Port’s strategic location on the north east coast makes it a key logistics hub for energy transition and industrial investment.

The Montrose Port project creates flexible industrial land and infrastructure designed to attract high-value supply chain investment and boost regional growth.

The acquisition of an additional 45 acres of land in 2024 – the new Montrose Industrial Park – offers the flexibility to modernise the traditional harbour by moving and retaining current customers who do not require quayside access. The current estimate for the modernisation of the port itself is £78 million.

The port development phase is being planned.

Montrose Port Authority is the world’s largest chain and anchor port and a leading hub for logistics, energy, and offshore operations. As a trust port, it reinvests its profits into sustainable infrastructure to drive long-term economic and environmental benefit.

Montrose Port is home to operations and maintenance (O&M) bases for major offshore wind farms including Seagreen and Inch Cape. The expansion will enhance its O&M capacity, support component storage, and provide space for new developments.
