Kishorn - port expansion

Project description

Kishorn Port, one of Scotland’s most strategically important deep-water facilities, is expanding through a £24.3 million investment from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). The project will enhance dry dock capacity and reclaim land to support manufacturing for floating offshore wind foundations, positioning Kishorn as a major hub for renewables and industrial growth in the west Highlands.

Finer details

The port expansion strengthens Scotland’s offshore wind supply chain by enabling large-scale fabrication and assembly of floating wind substructures. With deep-water access and heavy-lift capacity, Kishorn is well placed to serve both domestic and international renewable energy projects.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise is investing £24.3 million to expand Kishorn Port’s dry dock and reclaim land for industrial development. The upgraded site will support major offshore wind contracts and is forecast to help create up to 1,500 skilled jobs.

Funding has been secured and development plans are progressing. The expansion will increase capacity for component manufacturing, storage, and marshalling, ensuring Kishorn can meet demand from Scotland’s growing floating offshore wind sector.

Kishorn Port Limited operates one of Europe’s largest dry docks, providing fabrication, assembly, and logistics for the energy sector. With integrated quarry and port facilities, KPL offers unique capabilities for manufacturing concrete floating wind foundations and heavy industrial structures.

The expansion supports Scotland’s ambition to lead in floating offshore wind. Kishorn’s deep-water access, extensive laydown areas, and on-site quarry make it ideal for fabricating large-scale concrete substructures and hosting long-term industrial operations.
