A global hub
In 2014 Scotland's oil and gas supply chain companies enjoyed record-breaking international sales of over £11.2 billion.
And, for the first time, the Asia Pacific region was a top three market for Scotland's international sales:
- Singapore was the second highest market for international sales
- Asia Pacific is ranked as the fourth highest region for growth in the immediate future
- 50% of respondents reported Asia Pacific as a growth opportunity in the next five years
David Rennie, our international head of oil and gas, said:
"We know from the work we’ve been doing in the region that Asia Pacific represents huge opportunities for our oil & gas companies – which was backed up by the findings of the recent annual survey of international activity of the Scottish oil and gas supply chain.
"Scotland has world leading capabilities across right across the sector, but our particular strengths in areas such as subsea engineering and asset integrity, means our companies are ideally positioned to support the region in it’s ambitions to grow the oil & gas industry.
"By looking to develop opportunities in new markets we’re also ensuring that Scotland remains at the forefront of the industry as it expands in new geographical areas."
Indeed Scotland's leading place in the global oil and gas industry was highlighted by our recent survey of global perceptions in the sector:
- 78% of senior industry figures recognise Scotland's "important" role in the oil and gas sector
- 74% of senior industry figures consider Scotland as one the world's training ground for the oil and gas industry
- 55% of respondents see their relationship with Scotland growing in the future
