Strengths
Considered amongst the finest producers of cashmere, tweeds, leather, lace and knitwear products, Scotland is far more that just a leading tartan manufacturer.
Our 200 year old industry started with practical woollens to protect us from a changeable climate and has grown to become an £770 million industry that employs 11,300 people. And we’re protective of that industry. 90 percent of local textiles companies are Scottish owned and have, in the majority, settled around the Borders, Tayside and Ayrshire regions.
Thanks to this fierce preservation of our industry we have been rewarded with a strong market, a reputation for quality textiles and innovation in design, production and supply.
