How we can help

Our aim is to help the medical technology sector and life sciences industry grow by striking up partnership agreements between Scottish and foreign life sciences, medtech and biotech companies.

By opening doors to a huge range of opportunities in new markets, funding, new technology, R&D and training, we can help potential investors grow their business.

We can help you tap into free business and strategic advice. We can also put you in touch with crucial business contacts across Scotland and overseas.

Developing, testing and commercialising your products

As a nation, Scotland takes a coordinated and collaborative approach to help you in the development, testing and adoption of products – from bench to bedside.

Medtech R&D support

Launched in 2011, Strathclyde MedTech is a network project based at Strathclyde Institute of Medical Devices (SIMD) – a centre of excellence for medtech R&D at the University of Strathclyde. It offers advice and support for companies developing complex convergent technologies with acesss to more than 80 academics in the field, as well as encouraging Scottish based companies to collaborate with the university and other firms.

Funding will be available to help firms work with the university through consultancy or research projects, including feasibility studies and testing for technologies in areas including:

  • Diagnostics
  • Cardiovascular devices
  • Rehabilitation and assisted living
  • Drug delivery
  • Biomaterials
  • Cell/tissue engineering

The venture has received £376,000 from the Scottish Government's SEEKIT fund, and nearly £308,000 from the European Regional Development Fund.
