A supportive regulatory and funding environment champions Scotland’s drug discovery and development activities backed by the highest ethical research standards.

In addition, Scotland has strong links between industry, universities and research institutes helping maintain a strong supportive specialist network.

Centres of excellence for drug discovery in Scotland

These include:

• University of Strathclyde Formulation Unit – offers a full range of drug research and development services 
• Strathclyde Institute for Drug Research (SIDR) – identifies early-stage commercial opportunities in drug research, develops them through proof of concept stage, and seeks industrial partners for full development 
• National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) – a partnership between government, charity and industry which promotes co-operation in cancer research 
• College of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee – a centre of excellence in life sciences research-led teaching programmes 
• Edinburgh Research and Innovation (ERI) – provides world-class research and commercialisation expertise to potential funders, collaborators, licensees or investors
