The beverage industry in Scotland
Scotland is famed around the world for its drinks. Scotch whisky is the world’s most popular spirit – more Scotch whisky is sold in one month in France than Cognac in a year.
Alongside whisky’s massive popularity, Scotland also has a reputation for soft drinks and mineral water. For example Highland Spring is currently the fastest growing brand in the UK and IRN BRU is exported around the world and known as one of the UK’s top 100 exports.
The country also has a small but significant number of breweries, which tend to cater to the niche-product, high-end of the market. Scotland’s International Centre for Brewing and Distilling is the only organisation in the UK to offer both Honours and Masters degrees in Brewing and Distilling.
From famous traditional Scottish tipples like whisky to a growing reputation in the bottled water market, the sophisticated reputation of Scotland’s beverages continues to grow.
