Scotland has 25 percent of Europe’s wind resource, 60 percent of the UK’s installed onshore wind capacity and a strong commitment to increasing the use of renewable energy sources.

The Scottish Government is fully supportive of the wind power sector as part of it’s commitment to generate the equivalent of 100 per cent of Scotland's own electricity demand from renewable resources by 2020.

Onshore wind power accounts for 37 percent of the renewable energy capacity currently being installed in Scotland.

Current plans for expansion in the wind power sector include:

• An additional 7GW of onshore wind energy under construction, consented or in planning
• An increase in the onshore and offshore wind energy workforce from 3000 to 28,000 employees over the next ten years
