Strengths of Scotland's FE colleges
Scotland’s 41 further education (FE) colleges offer:
Huge range of courses leading to further and higher education qualifications
Vocational and occupational learning supported by employers
Modular courses, making it easy to create bespoke programmes
Many courses have been designed in conjunction with employers and can lead to Higher National Certificates or Diplomas. Indeed, a large number of international companies already have strong working relationships with our colleges, such as IBM, Amazon, INEOS, Shell and BP.
Many of these courses provide direct and accelerated access to degree level study
Colleges alone will receive £581 million funding from the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) in 2010/11 – an increase of £9.8 million from 2009/10
Scotland’s colleges continually win business form overseas governments, charities, leading international companies and other organisations
Over 500,000 students are taking courses at our 41 SFC funded FE colleges
Scotland’s colleges have attracted around 6000 overseas students, from 117 countries
Colleges are all autonomous, individual businesses supported through successful commercial contracts and the Scottish Government
Scotland’s international reputation is proving fruitful in attracting overseas students and, as result, Scotland’s Colleges International was recently formed to help support our international activity.
