Commercialisation licenses to accelerate growth

Two Scottish-based companies have licensed technology from Scottish Enterprise to help them create innovative products that will open up global markets.

Scottish Enterprise announce licensing agreementsMerck Millipore, the global life sciences division of Germany's Merck KGaA, has secured a licence to commercialise reagents for an emerging research markets and the creation of a brand new product for the drug discovery process.

A second licence has been granted to banking software company Contemplate. The licence allows Contemplate to use static analysis technolgy to develop its first products.

The licences have been awarded as part of Scottish Enterprise's commitment to translating Scotland's world-leading research talents into large-scale commercial companies.

Scottish Enterprise works to develop enhanced commercial outcomes from academic and business research by turning university spin-out and other start-up companies into global leaders.

Dr Eleanor Mitchell, director of commercialisation at Scottish Enterprise, said:

"These license deals are great news as they demonstrate that companies based in Scotland can access home-grown technology.

"And with the public sector investing in the technology’s early research, the companies can focus their resources on rapid product development, helping them get to market quicker.

"Scotland needs more of these high growth, globally ambitious companies to help our economy recover."
