Roslin Cells relocates to Edinburgh BioQuarter

Date Created: 25 November 2011

""Roslin Cells has moved to the new Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine (SCRM) at Edinburgh BioQuarter.

The move will enable the company to co-locate with University of Edinburgh’s MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine and to operate the SCRM’s 1,000 square metre GMP cell processing facility in conjunction with the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service.

Cell therapies

Roslin Cells Ltd was established by Roslin Institute in 2006 with the aim of providing ethically sourced, pluripotent human cells manufactured to the highest quality available. It also assists academic and commercial organisations to translate fundamental research into GMP compliant processes which can be used in the production of cell therapies.

State of the art

The GMP facility is the state of the art for cell therapy manufacture in Europe. It has seven clean rooms as well as associated quality control laboratories which will enable Roslin Cells to play a leading role in the translation of stem cell biology to new cell therapies.

World leading research

In the coming months, the Company’s development programme will expand rapidly to encompass the wide variety of cell types being used in cell therapy and to build on the company’s collaborations with the UK science base and, in particular, the world leading research underway at the MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine.

Aidan Courtney, CEO said: “I am confident that 2012 will be the first of many that deliver tangible results for the investment made and the foresight of those who initiated the creation of Edinburgh BioQuarter and the SCRM.”
