Renewables funding boost welcomed

Scotland's thriving renewables energy sector has received a £103 million funding boost from the UK Governement.

An agreement between the Scottish Government and the UK Government will allow acess to an extra £103 million funding to support the development of Scottish renewables sector. The money is around half of the Scottish Fossil Fuel Levy Fund with the remainder being used to support the £3 billion UK-wide Green Investment Bank.

Welcoming the announcement Lena Wilson, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, said:

"This is very good news for Scotland's fast emerging renewable energy sector. This additional £103 million will bolster the existing funds already place such as the National Renewables Infrastructure Fund and POWERS Fund resulting in more than £200 million of investment dedicated to supporting Scotland's ambition to become a powerhouse of renewable energy research, innovation, test and manufacturing."
