Scottish Development International woos Hong Kong business

Date Created: 24 November 2011

Scottish Development International (SDI) recently hosted and organised a financial and business services seminar to promote links between Scotland and Hong Kong.

The event encouraged companies to further explore trade opportunities and collaboration in the financial and business services sectors, key areas of expertise for both Hong Kong and Scotland.

The seminar coincided with the visit to Scotland of the Honourable Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

An audience of around 100 representatives from the Scottish financial and business services community attended the conference in Edinburgh.

Invest Hong Kong sponsored the event with SDI working in partnership with Scottish Financial Enterprise to organise it.

After being formally welcomed by John Swinney MSP, Scotland's Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth, Mr Tsang gave a keynote address encouraging further links between the sectors in Hong Kong and Scotland.

A panel discussion and question and answer session featured a number of sector and regional experts, including:

  • Eric Landheer - Head of Issuer Marketing, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing
  • Edmond Lau - Executive Director, Monetary Management Department, Hong Kong Monetary Authority
  • Stuart Leckie - Chairman, Stirling Finance and a member of the GlobalScot network
  • Ken Barclay - Managing Director, UK Corporate Coverage, Royal Bank of Scotland

Representatives from SDI and Invest Hong Kong were also on hand to highlight the support available to Scottish countries looking to expand into the Hong Kong market.
