""The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) attracted about 1.26 million visitors and 26,000 exhibitors to Glasgow between April 2010 and March 2011, according to figures released by professional services firm KPMG.

The figures were generated using an economic impact model developed by KPMG for the SECC, and during the period, the leading Scottish venue hosted 218 events.

Visitors contributed £397 million to Glasgow, and added £247 million more to the wider Scottish economy.

International music concerts, such as the MOBO Awards, and international business conferences and events have showcased Scotland to global audiences and attracted signficiant numbers of leisure and business tourists.

John Sharkey, Chief Executive of the SECC said: “These economic impact figures not only show the contribution the SECC makes to both Scottish and local Glasgow economies, but it also demonstrates our full commitment in supporting the city and its wide range of hotel and leisure businesses, through the large number of events and visitors we host each year.

“It’s pleasing to note the SECC has the same sort of economic impact on Scotland and Glasgow as the O2, the world’s largest entertainment venue, has on London.”
