""Scottish Development International is urging Scottish companies to enter the UK’s most prestigious business awards – The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.

The awards recognise outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of innovation, international trade and sustainable development and act as proof that businesses are outstanding examples in their industry.

Winning an award can create excellent press and publicity opportunities for businesses, as well as increased sales and worldwide recognition that a business is the best in its field.

Scottish achievements

Last year 12 Scottish businesses from a range of industries picked up awards, including Peak Scientific for doubling its overseas earnings and Clintec International, a first time winner for outstanding achievement in growing overseas income by 152 percent.

“As the ultimate business accolade, winning an award shows that you are amongst the very best”, said Joanna Hill from The Queen’s Awards office.

“I would urge businesses to start their applications early. Guidance is available from our website and from our helpline.”

Application guidelines

As the UK's highest business accolade, the application process is meticulous and rigorous. All applications are assessed by an independent team and all applicants get feedback on their application whether they are successful or not.

Winners will receive a commemorative Grant of Appointment certificate and a crystal chalice at an award ceremony with HM The Queen at Buckingham Palace. Companies can display the awards emblem for five years.

All UK based companies employing more than two people can enter. It is free to enter and the deadline for entries for the 2012 awards is October 31 2011.
