Mint Digital expands its operations into Scotland

Date Created: 03 September 2010

Mint Digital, one of the UK’s leading cross-platform digital agencies, has today (2 September) announced it is expanding its operations into Scotland, following support from Scottish Development International (SDI). With offices in London and New York, Mint’s expansion to Glasgow creates six new jobs. The new team is already making its mark with the launch of Quotables, their first Scottish project collaborating with Channel 4’s digital creative wizard Adam Gee.

Run out of Mint’s Glasgow office, the website aims to create the most comprehensive, trustworthy and lively source of quotations on the internet. The brainchild of Adam Gee and supported by Channel 4 and the Arts Council, Quotables is a unique resource allowing language lovers to share and discover some of the funniest, wisest and most memorable things ever said.

Andy Bell, Creative Director of Mint Digital, said:

“This is an exciting time for Mint Digital. Scotland offers an outstanding opportunity for us to join a number of the world’s leading digital and creative players from its central hub.

Quotables has been a labour of love for all involved. The idea was to create a useful and accessible online home for quotations, generated by a community of quote lovers that would dispel the inaccuracies of current quotation websites. We hope it will become the number one place for people to enjoy and share their favourite quotes online. Uniquely, the site is a constantly evolving resource - with a focus on encouraging accuracy, users can edit and add to any quote. The aim is that Quotables becomes the most authoritative reference site for quotations.

“We take inspiration from the words of Benjamin Disraeli: ‘The wisdom of the wise and the experience of the ages may be preserved through quotations’ and from Voltaire: ‘We look to Scotland for all our ideas of civilisation’.”

The investment by the Arts Council and Channel 4 comes just weeks after the TV station invested £1m into Dundee’s computer games sector enabling further cross-platform media projects.

Mint Digital’s expansion has been supported by £70,000 of Regional Selective Assistance funding from Scottish Enterprise, which is working with international arm Scottish Development International to attract relevant inward investment into the sector.

Mike Shiel, head of digital media at SDI said:

“Mint Digital is a welcome addition to the Scotland’s digital and creative industry and joins some of the most innovative and digitally advanced agencies in the world.

““SDI, working in partnership with Scottish Enterprise, has put together a strong package of support to attract and secure Mint Digital’s additional investment in Glasgow, underlining Scotland’s commitment to develop and enable digital companies to fulfil their potential, making it one of the most dynamic and innovative places to be in the UK.

“We look forward to working with the team at Mint Digital to help them achieve their ambitious growth plans.”
