People tell us that there are not many places in the world where you can come and actually work with academics from the university and the NHS.

NHS Scotland - Chris Packard

Work in a collaborative environment

Scotland’s unified healthcare provider, the NHS, works closely with industry and academia, supported by the dedicated cross-party organisation, LISAB.

The NHS provides coordinated access to clinical investigators and patients through single point of contact for industry, accessible clinical research support infrastructures, and streamlined and timely clinical trial approvals.

Funding to support R&D

Benefit from a range of funding mechanisms to support R&D that could help drive your next project to clinical trial phase.

A £50 million venture capital fund, launched by Epidarex Capital venture with investment from major strategic partners including Eli Lilly, is dedicated to investment in promising Scottish life sciences start-up companies.

Scotland also offers a range of funding mechanisms to support R&D, including R&D tax credits, R&D grants to support industrial research and experimental development and Patent Box, which offers a 10% rate of corporation tax until 2017 when you commercialise your EU patent in Scotland.

Accessible and well connected

A good measure of Europe's pre-clinical testing takes place here in Scotland

Thanks to our compact geography, Scotland is highly inter-connected, with good motorway, train links and domestic airports serving outlying areas. Our main cities – Glasgow and Edinburgh – are only 40 miles apart.

Courier services can deliver to most European destinations within 24 hours. Direct flights link Scotland to Europe and America via 5 international airports, and our outstanding logistics, cold chain and packaging capability enables the time-critical shipment of cells and biological products into and out of the country. TNT and UK World Courier have offices near Edinburgh Airport to provide local and worldwide GxP compliant transport and logistics services to Scottish life sciences companies.

We can open doors to collaborations with the NHS, government, industry and academia. It's like having your own team of experts.
