Are you eligible for research grants in Scotland?

The Research and Development Grant is open to companies based in Scotland or planning to establish a research and development presence here.

To be eligible for R&D funding your company must show:

  • The R&D represents a significant innovation for your company 
  • The R&D programme will benefit the local economy (all companies) and compete in a global marketplace (large companies)
  • The project will create or safeguard jobs
  • The strategic importance of the project to your company
  • The research grant will be used to enhance your company's future competitiveness, capacity and sustainability

R&D Plus

R&D Plus helps larger companies to develop new products or processes through to the pre-production prototype stage.

The scheme offers discretionary grants of up to 25 percent. Scotland has a longstanding reputation for innovation and technical excellence.

R&D Plus builds on that history and supports Scottish based research with the potential of international commercial success.

SMART: SCOTLAND

SMART: Scotland supports innovation projects that represent a significant technological advance with your industry. The scheme offers up to 35 percent of project costs for small and medium enterprises. 

Seventh Framework (FP7)

Seventh Framework or FP7 is a European Union programme that aims to encourage collaborative working and research across Europe. Up 75 percent of research and development costs can be reimbursed.

Technology Strategy Board (TSB)

The Technology Strategy Board support innovative business idea through a programme of funding.
