SDI and UKTI are offering joint support packages to help Scottish companies attend AusBiotech 2011, the Asia Pacific regions largest biotech event

AusBiotech 2011 is the largest biotechnology event in the Asia Pacific region. Organised by AusBiotech, Australia's national biotechnolgy organisation, the event attracted over 1500 delegates in 2010, including 200 international visitors from 20 different countries.

Australia has the world's sixth largest biotech industry with over 1000 life science companies. 600 of these companies have a medtech focus while there are 400 pure biotech companies serving a number of sectors including drug discovery, agricultural research and biofuels.

Scottish Development International are working with UKTI to offer a joint support package to companies wanting to attend AusBiotech 2011 and explore the rich opportunities offered by the Australian market.

The support package will include financial support for travel and accomodation costs, a tailored market report and meeting support around the event.

Australia's life science clusters are centred around Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide with the state of Victoria home to around 45 percent of the industy.

Life sciences work in Australia has a particular focus on area that are highly complementary to the industry in Scotland. These include:
