Taiwan has a dynamic economy, with a land mass equivalent to Scotland and a population of 23 million. It is the 24th largest economy in the World, the 15th largest trading partner to the EU, and the 8th largest trading partner to the US. It also has the world’s 4th highest foreign exchange reserves.
Taiwanese companies are also leading global players in ICT, Semiconductors, and other high-value sectors. It is an International powerhouse of innovation and advance production process, and receives more patents per capita than any other country in the world.
In absolute terms, Taiwan comes third in Design Patents and lags only behind the US, Japan, and Germany in Invention Patents, making it an ideal partner for Scottish SME to develop their technologies and products for the global market.
From our Taipei office, we can help Scottish companies explore opportunities to do business. We also approach Taiwanese companies and made them aware of opportunities in Scotland, through partnership or outsourcing, or even working together to access a 3rd market.
Reggie Wu (pictured above) manages our Taipei office, working alongside Robert Martin who oversees SDI's Greater China Market.
We work with partners such as UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), the British Trade & Cultural Office, the British Council, the British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei and our GlobalScot network to assist Scottish companies and promote Scotland's business interests in the country.
