SDI’s Singapore office is led by Regional Manager, Jason Grant (pictured left) – our representative for the South East (SE) Asia region.
Our Singapore office officially opened in 2003 under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Singapore Economic Development Board.
We work in partnership with the Scottish Business Associations of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, supporting and networking the Scottish business communities in these countries and ensuring they have a voice and a lobbying capacity with the national governments.
Key opportunities
- Life sciences and biotechnology
- Financial services
- Scottish luxury products in textiles, food and drink
- Education
The region has some of the fastest growing economies in the world.
Singapore, despite being the smallest of the ASEAN nations, is the UK’s largest trading partner in SE Asia and one of its largest export markets outside Europe. In effect, Singapore acts as a regional hub, importing and re-exporting a huge amount of world trade to ASEAN, South China and Australasia.
The UK is also the largest investor in Singapore with over 750 British companies based there, many of them regional headquarters of Scottish product or services groups.
High growth and high potential markets
Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines – all of these countries have significant and growing demand in the energy (oil and gas, and renewables), infrastructure, education, and healthcare sectors.
These countries also have a fast growing and increasingly brand-conscious middle class, hungry for European products and services.
